Meet Amita

I know what it feels like to be unexpectedly in career transition, because I've been there myself.

My path here wasn't exactly a straight line. I grew up in India, where I studied engineering and started my career as a software developer. Very soon, I realized it wasn't the long-term path for me, but I wasn't sure what else was out there. That uncertainty led me to a Master's program at UT Dallas, and at the end of 2007, I moved to the United States to pursue it.

What followed was a long, fulfilling corporate career: 16 years of building skills, taking on new challenges, and growing both personally and professionally. Then, in early 2024, I found myself laid off, and suddenly on the other side of a transition I never planned for.

A former colleague told me about a local networking group here in Dallas, Southlake Focus Group, and encouraged me to just show up. That one conversation changed everything. I found my way to my next role, but more importantly, I found something I didn't expect: a real passion for helping others navigate the same uncertainty I had just been through. I kept coming back to volunteer as a coach, and it was there that Career Compass Coach really began to take shape.

In May 2026, I made it official and founded Career Compass Coach, built on everything I wish I'd had during my own transition: a clear plan, honest support, and someone in my corner the whole way through.

Why I do this work

I'm passionate about helping professionals navigate both unplanned career transitions and intentional pivots, staying confident, motivated, and positive throughout the journey. Whether you're figuring out your next step after a layoff, or ready for a change you've been thinking about for a while, my goal is simple: to help you move forward with a plan, not just hope.
